What to Do About Leaky Repairs

The appearance of flood and moisture in unwanted places are signs of leaks, and leaks that are not detected on time can be more expensive. For instance, your toilet may flush unnecessarily when there is a problem with the flapper. When it comes to the flapper, the flush valve might have corroded or incorrectly fitted and in this case, the valve must be replaced. If there is a gap in one half of a flapper, you will need to replace it with a flexible frame. Sometimes the chain attached to the flapper may be too long and get caught beneath and will need to be trimmed. Whatever the case is please contact us at Leak Detection of Atlanta for help.

Check for Fast and Slow Leaks in the Toilet Tank

To identify fast leaks, you may want to add dye to the tank. To identify the slow leaks, simply turn off the filled water tank and mark the watermark with a pencil until the water goes down until it stops. If the water drains completely from the tank, the gasket that seals the flush valve into the tank might have broken up and needs replacement. If the toilet leaks at the flush valve gasket, then you need to tighten a little more.

Other Problems Areas You Should Check

Check Bolts, Refill Tube, Overflow Pipe, Shank washer and Tank Lever for Leaks

Bolts must be checked for leaky repairs in the toilet. For instance, leakages between the bowls and tanks are often caused by loose or faulty bolts. Tighten the bolt and see if the leak stops or replace it with brass bolts and new washers. Check the refill tube also for damages. If the refill tube is into the overflow pipe too far, water might be migrating through such an area. The overflow pipe or tank must also be checked because overtime, cracks may occur in the plastic of the overflow pipe or the ceramic of the tank, hence there will be the need for replacements.

If there is water leakage near the fill valves shank, please shut off the water and replace the supply line if leak stops, otherwise tighten the fill valves lock nut gently. You need to check the tank lever too because your overflow pipe should rest an inch or more below the tank lever. A leak may occur if an overflow pipe is incorrectly placed or cut.
